Blog by Schwing                  This week in math we learned how to do algebraic expressions with patterns and line graphs, we did linear and non-linear problems, in n out tables, and a math assessment. Next week we are doing multiplication.      In social studies we learned about fundamental freedoms and rights in Canada. We also did city hall event mapping.      In writing we did picture prompts, which is when the teacher gives us a picture and we have to make a story out of it.      For science we studied foot prints and finger prints and how to identify them. I know this is last week, but we went to see Cassie Suche's art, which is made of finger prints in city hall school.     With the book we are reading, Restart, we did a summary of it from chapter 19-20.     We wrote on some post it's about what we know about making a change on our board, before we did what we tho...

November 18

Hello Room 17 families,  This week we have been downtown on our week long learning experience "City Hall School" exploring our class idea: Old Enough to Make a Change.  We have been having an amazing time exploring city hall, hearing from a wide variety of experts, learning about different pieces of our government, meeting and asking questions of our mayor, as well as Ward 14's Councillor Demong. We have been sketching, writing jot notes, wondering, observing, listening and overall exploring our way through the various spaces of downtown Calgary! Some things coming up next week:  Our parent teacher conferences are open for sign up online, so far there is still lots of spots open! These are coming up on Thursday evening and Friday day time so don't forget to book your time.  Our Book Fair has started. Art Card Deadline

** Reminder that tomorrow is the deadline for ordering Art Cards** see inside the card for information on ordering.

November 10

This week we finished learning about patterning and did a math assessment that incorporated algebra, graphing and of course patterning, to show Miss Adamson what we know.  In Writing we wrote a letter to a veteran for Remembrance Day to thank them for their service.  In Social Studies we have been learning about the mayor, and prepping for city hall school. Today we learned about Peter Demong, he is the city councillor for Ward 14 and we will be meeting him on Monday. We prepped some good questions to ask him and learned about the 'pre amble' leading up to questions.  For City Hall School:  Students (and volunteers) need to make sure they have good walking shoes as there will be a lot of walking.  Students also need to ensure that they are dressing properly for the weather, with removable layers, as we will be both in and outside throughout the days.
