This week in math we have been working on Order of Operations; using BEDMAS to help us remember the order we need to complete each mathematical operation. Grade 5s have been learning how brackets affect the equations, grade 6s have been working with exponents, along with some grade 5s who wanted a challenge. In writing, we have been writing biographies of historical Canadian figures. Students have been completing research on their chosen individual, taking jot notes, and then drafting their biographies. Students have been self-editing, peer editing and receiving teacher feedback to support them in working through their writing. In social studies, Grade 6s have been working on reading provided texts to answering questions on Ancient Athens; Grade 5s have been completing research and creating presentations on regions within Canada. Lake Bonavista School is participating in netball from May 8 th until May 16 th in our gymnasium. This sport involves foundational movement skills such as jumping, running, throwing, and catching. As described on the Netball Alberta website ( www. netball alberta.com ): “ Netball is an exciting, fast and skillful game of fair contest: It is a game in which two teams of seven players each strive to keep or gain possession of the ball. Players have specified areas in which they can move.” Parent Council has graciously provided the funding to bring this event into our school. Consent forms will be sent home with your child.
