Blog by Rhea In math, we wrapped up single divisor long division, and started double divisor long division. We also learned about check methods, using mutiplication to check that we got the answer correct In writing, we started writing biographies about child activists. We read about 11 different activists in the book 'Old Enough to Save the Planet', then we got into groups and we picked one of the 11 people to learn more about and write about. In art, we had a guest teacher, Ms. Sharon! we painted on wooden planks, about water in the air, land, and underground. These are going to go into our garden as public art. This connects to our science learning we did about the water cycle.  In health, we learned about the 7 sacred teachings. They are Courage, Wisdom, Love, Humility, Honesty, Respect and Truth. We each learned about one of them and then we shared all the information we had learned with a group to teach each other about all 7.     That's all!

jan 20 2023 Blog

blog by Aeknoor & room 17 In math we did a lots of practice for long division, including a math scavenger hunt. We also did math warm ups.  In social we coloured and labelled a map of Canada.  In writing we finished up persuasive writing we got to chose our own topic this time to show Miss Adamson how we could apply the skills we've learned!!  In reading grade 5/6 read a short story & answered questions as well as summarized the story and pulled out vocabulary they were unsure of to look up definitions. In French we have created french houses or 'ma maison', we need to draw and label furniture and rooms within our houses in french. In science we made bread, an experiment to learn about physical and chemical changes in chemistry. In health we learned about the 7 sacred teachings each represented by an animal, they are love, honesty, respect, humility, truth, courage and wisdom. We will continue learning more about these next week.

Recorder Reminder

Dear Grade 5/6 families, A reminder that the Recorder unit for students in rooms 7, 16, and 17 will be starting on February 1. If your student has a recorder from a previous year, it can be brought to school at any time up until February 1.  I have encouraged the students to look for their recorders this week so that they have the ability to order before the deadline if they can't find them. If you wish to purchase a new recorder at a cost of $6.50, it is possible to do so in Powerschool until January 23.   I will place the recorder order on January 24 so we will hopefully have them by February 1. Thank you, Julie Kawchuk

Music Announcement

D ear grade 5/6 families,    We will soon be starting a Recorder Unit for students in rooms 7, 16 and 17. Students will be able to learn to play Recorder with good tone and develop the ability to read Music (Music Program of Study).         Grade 6 students may still have their recorder from when they were in grade 3.     If they would like to use this recorder, please ensure that it comes to school by Feb. 1.       If you wish to purchase a new recorder at a cost of $6.50, it is possible to do so in Powerschool until January 23.      I will place the orders right away so that we will hopefully have our recorders by Feb. 1.     These are three-piece Suzuki recorders that come in a cloth bag with a cleaning wand and are excellent quality and tone.    Recorders will be kept at school for the duration of the Recorder Unit and will be stored in the Music room.     Recorders will be sent home when we finish our Recorder Unit at the end of March.         Thank you for your support of this v
