Hello room 17,

This week in math we started working on coordinate graphing, we made double line and double bar graphs to represent weather data we had collected for science/social studies, and we have started doing algebra on Fridays for a fun challenge.

In social studies, Grade 5s made a brochure advertising our regions that we learned about, their audience sketch-noted what they learned about each region. Grade 6s made an informational brochure to teach about ancient Athens. Grade 5s and 6s also presented in small groups about what they had been learning.

In science, grade 5's used thermometers outside and inside, learning about how air moves in different spaces and what factors can affect the temperature of an area. We learned about cold fronts and warm fronts and how it affects the movement of cold and warm air. Grade 6s they learned about shadows and how the position of the sun affects both the length and angle of the shadow. Each grade graphed their data in order to analyze patterns within it. Grade 6s also learned about the sun including eclipses and sun viewing safety.

In language arts, we made flip grid videos to tell about the about historic  canadians we had written our biographies about.  When we return from spring break, we will be able to learn about each different person using the videos.

In music we wrapped up our learning on recorders.

In gym we completed our badminton unit. We played large group games demonstrating skills including forehand and backhand serve, and rallying.  We will be beginning gymnastics when we return- please see the blog note to see how safety clothing/hair requirements in order for your child to participate.

Hope everyone has a wonderful spring break! See you all in April!!!
