This week in math we have been working on Order of Operations; using BEDMAS to help us remember the order we need to complete each mathematical operation. Grade 5s have been learning how brackets affect the equations, grade 6s have been working with exponents, along with some grade 5s who wanted a challenge. In writing, we have been writing biographies of historical Canadian figures. Students have been completing research on their chosen individual, taking jot notes, and then drafting their biographies. Students have been self-editing, peer editing and receiving teacher feedback to support them in working through their writing.  In social studies, Grade 6s have been working on reading provided texts to answering questions on Ancient Athens; Grade 5s have been completing research and creating presentations on regions within Canada.  In science, Grade 6s have been learning about sky science, learning about reflecting vs emitting light. Human sexuality education

 Date April 28, 2023 Dear Parent/Guardian: RE: School Act | Section 58.1 | Course Components Notice and Exemption Health and Life Skills | Grade 4 to 6 On September 1st, 2019, Section 58.1 of the Education Act replaced Section 50.1 of the School Act. The Calgary Board of Education is still required to provide parents with notice "where courses of study, educational programs or instructional materials, or instruction or exercises…include subject matter that deals primarily and explicitly with religion and human sexuality." Your child is currently enrolled in the Alberta Education Health and Life Skills Program of Study in grades four to six. The program aims to enable students to make well informed, healthy choices and to develop behaviours that contribute to the wellbeing of self and others.
