Hello Room 17 families, This week we have been working on word problems involving patterning. Students have been discussing and using different strategies in order to solve a variety of problems. In language arts, we have been looking at letter writing. We have been distinguishing the different features and uses of letters, looking particularly at formal vs. informal letters. We also went on a walking field trip each day. We are working on building our walking stamina, as well as learning various journaling techniques. This is helping to prepare us for our week long field trip to City Hall school coming up in a couple of weeks, where we will be walking around downtown and journaling to share our ideas and learning. In social studies we have been learning about the 4 pillars of democracy: equity, freedom, justice, and representation. We have also been looking at the different levels of government. We looked around our community for evidence of government services, and then created a
Blog by Mulan! In writing, we did picture prompts, where we got to choose between 2 pictures to write a story about. The pictures were Stilt Town and Strength of a Thousand. Stilt Town is a town built on stilts in the ocean, and Strength of a Thousand is a girl holding up a truck! For the story, we first wrote a planning page, then wrote the story and got feedback from a buddy. In social studies, we learned about the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. We had the choice to either make a poster about the Charter, or write summaries on a computer. We also talked about problems that has to do with the Charter. We had debates about them too. In science, we learned about tire tracks. We went to the parking lot with a buddy, and sketched the tracks in the snow. We also did a rubbing of the tires with crayons and white paper. Students who do not have a role will be in the chorus. If you know that your child will not be at school on the day or evening of December 15, please let me know as soon as possible so we have time to reassign your child’s role. Thank you for your consideration. Concert is for Grade 1-6. Kindergarten will have their own event in the Spring Dress Rehearsals 9:30 am (6:00 show) and 12:45pm (7:30 show) will be on Dec. 15 Each LBS family will receive 2 tickets to the concert.
